Nayani Nandakumar is the Program Coordinator for Research, Policy and Public Education. She has an academic background in Political Science and Anti-Racist Research and Practice from York University. Her graduate research focus has been on immigration and refugee policy, worker rights and how to implement anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices within different institutional spaces.
As someone who has gone through overt and systemic discrimination in the education system, she is dedicated to combatting different forms of racism and discrimination that Indigenous, Black and racialized students experience. She is currently working on a collaborative project with UARR’s community partners (Council of Agencies Serving South Asians, Chinese Canadian National Council of Toronto, Ontario Alliance of Black School Educators and Tamil Canadian Civic Centre for Action) to combat institutionalized racism in the school system.
