UARR is seeking a UARR is seeking a creative, curious, and motivated student who is interested in gaining experience with education systems, anti-racism, anti-oppressive work, policy analysis and community outreach. As Youth Organizer you will be working with racialized communities who have been directly impacted by the education system, and coordinating and planning peer outreach activities for youth in the Greater Toronto Area. 

This is a part-time contract for 15 hours/week, from September 2022 to December 2022.

Job Description: UARR is seeking a creative, curious, and motivated student who is interested in gaining experience with education systems, anti-racism, anti-oppressive work, policy analysis and community outreach. The student will work closely with the Project Coordinator to work on the REBuilding the Education System project which seeks to build racial equity in the education system and create systemic change. As the Youth Organizer you will be working with racialized communities who have been directly impacted by the education system and coordinating and planning peer outreach activities for youth in the Greater Toronto Area. You will also have the opportunity to work with school board trustees to advance a key actionable policy area within Toronto, York or Peel school boards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly work with students and parents to assist them with navigating racial equity issues and their legal rights within the school system
  • Conduct research on the barriers within the education and justice system impacting young people in Ontario
  • Host workshops on school boards and advocacy building for students and parents
  • Plan and implement outreach and engagement activities with culturally, religiously and linguistically diverse youth in the GTA
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and progress of the anti-racism education initiatives aimed to increase public awareness about racial inequities and related solutions in education
  • Coordinate various research related to educational policies and promising practices
  • Support youth leadership initiatives and other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong community-based research skills
  • Experience in working on research projects, especially in anti-racism, anti-oppression and education
  • Experience in working with various diverse communities, especially on youth leadership programs
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve and pay attention to detail
  • Experience in writing statements and brief policy documents
  • Knowledge of inequities in the Ontario primary and secondary school curriculum an asset*

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordination and Evaluation

  • Assist with coordination and evaluation of UARR’s three flagship programs: Equity in Education, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression Institute, & Diversity Youth Fellowship
  • Support the collection and analysis of internal and external data to measure program impact and inform strategy
  • Prepare program summaries and reports for distribution to funders, partners, and other stakeholders
  • Help maintain tools for program tracking, communications, and evaluation

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all general inquiries, responding professionally to all emails and phone calls
  • Assist with scheduling, coordinating, and minute-taking for meetings with staff, stakeholders, and community partners
  • Manage organizational record-keeping, including digital and physical filing systems
  • Prepare correspondence and presentations, and update materials for external communications including website content, newsletters, and social media posts
  • Support the team with a variety of tasks such as collecting documents, performing data entry, and handling follow-up communications
  • Support maintenance of financial records, including tracking of expenses, payroll documentation, and accounts payable/receivable
  • Support administrative tasks related to fundraising initiatives

People & Culture Processes

  • Support the organization of Human Resources files, onboarding materials, and internal policies
  • Assist with recruitment efforts, including interview scheduling, reference checks, and drafting of contracts

Executive Support

  • Assist the Executive Director in planning and executing tasks related to the organization’s 10-Year Strategic Plan
  • Provide ad hoc administrative support to leadership as needed

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Communications) and/or equivalent experience is required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in administration, program coordination, nonprofit operations, or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing correspondence, reports, or public-facing content
  • Comfortable with data entry, file management, and digital tools for communication and project tracking
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and communicate effectively
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage time effectively, take initiative, and adapt under pressure or when navigating competing priorities
  • Familiarity with basic financial processes (e.g., payroll support, invoicing, tracking expenses) and/or human resources coordination
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Calendar, etc.)

Compensation: $45,000 to $52,000 annual salary (based on qualifications and experience).
